CMMS PAS with a Major EU-Funded Project – A New Stage in Research on Anticancer Drugs

The Centre for Molecular and Macromolecular Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences is launching the project ‘Modernisation of the CBMiM PAN Campus – Interdisciplinary Centre for the Development of Anti-Cancer Drugs’, co financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the ‘European Funds for Łódź 2021–2027 programme.

This is an exceptionally important moment for us. We are delighted to have secured this project – its value is approximately three times our annual subsidies, which best illustrates the scale of this investment and its significance for the Institute’s further development.

The project involves a comprehensive modernisation of the research infrastructure at CMMS PAS in Łódź. As part of this, a completely new, dedicated laboratory facility will be built, designed from the ground up with the aim of conducting advanced research into anti-cancer drugs. It is here that the Interdisciplinary Centre for the Development of Anti-Cancer Drugs will be established.

The new infrastructure will be equipped with unique research apparatus, including, amongst others, a high-resolution transmission electron microscope with cryogenic mode, a confocal microscope, an SEC Flow-FFF chromatograph, a DNA synthesiser, and advanced research and computing workstations. The project also includes developing the team’s expertise through specialist training in the commercialisation of research results and collaboration with the business community.

Thanks to this investment, we will make a huge qualitative leap forward in our research. The new laboratories, built from scratch and equipped with the latest technologies, will enable us to carry out projects at a completely new level – faster, more effectively and with greater implementation potential.

The project addresses one of the most significant civilisational challenges of the modern world – the development of effective anti-cancer therapies, which are of crucial importance to public health on a global scale.

This is an investment that will significantly transform the research capabilities of CBMiM PAN and open up new prospects
