ASSISTANT – PhD STUDENT- POSITION in Division of Bioorganic Chemistry

Director of the Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences in Lodz, opens ASSISTANT – PhD STUDENT POSSITION in the Division of Bioorganic Chemistry.

The position is related to the research on:

Design, synthesis and biological characterization of nanostructures bearing therapeutic nucleic acids.

The research domain includes:

  • design of antisense(ASO) / short interfering RNA (siRNA) oligonucleotides targeted towards genes involved in pathogenesis of common diseases
  • purification and structural characterization as well as post-synthetic modifications of oligonucleotides obtained by solid phase synthesis
  • biochemical analysis of the silencing activity of modified ASO/siRNA with the molecular biology methods
  • structural analysis of nanostructures formed by modified ASO/siRNA
  • visualization of nanostructures of modified ASO/siRNA by Cryo-TEM and / or AFM techniques
  • preparation of seminars, reports, scientific publications and conference presentations

Required qualifications and criteria to be met by a candidate:

  • PhD student with open PhD in biology or related discipline,
  • scientific accomplishments in the above specified domains, with at least one scientific paper in a journal from the JCR list or a patent (under exceptional circumstances a patent pending will do);
  • experience in purification/structural analysis of modified synthetic oligonucleotides (knowledge on techniques used in purification of nucleic acids and structural analysis will be an advantage),
  • knowledge and skills in molecular biology and human cell culturing methods
  • experience in nanostructure imaging techniques (Cryo-TEM, AFM)
  • documented participation in national and international conferences devoted to topics specified in the above paragraph,
  • speaking and writing English at the level allowing for efficient use of the professional literature and for participation in international conferences,
  • Ability to work in a team and strong motivation for research work.

During the recruitment process selected candidates may be invited for an interview.

The selected candidate shall be employed according to the regulations of Polish Labor Law for an unspecified period of time or within a fixed contract.
