ADJUNCT in Organic Chemistry Division

Director of Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences in Lodz announces a competition for the position of ADJUNCT in Organic Chemistry Division.

A position covering work in the field of synthesis and ecotoxicity studies of organic and hetero-organic compounds, with particular emphasis on fused hydrocarbons and organophosphorus compounds.

1. The area of the research in which the candidate would participate:

• synthesis of hetero-organic compounds having fused aromatic rings with heteroatomic substituents;
• investigation of the photo-physical and thermal properties of the resulting compounds using UV absorption and light emission techniques (fluorimetry);
• organization of laboratory for ecotoxicological studies and carrying out ecotoxicity studies on organic and hetero-organic compounds with particular emphasis of organo-phosphorus compounds;
• separating crude reaction mixtures using physico-chemical methods and chromatographic techniques;
• determination of products structures using spectroscopic methods (NMR, MS, UV, IR);
• preparation of grant applications, publications, monographs and patents in Polish and English.

2. Requirements to be met by the candidate:

• at least a PhD in chemistry or a related field;
• evidence of scientific achievements in the areas listed in point 1, including at least three publications in ISI Master Journal List on the synthesis and characterisation of fused hetero-aromatic hydrocarbons and three publications on ecotoxicity studies;
• proven experience in hetero-organic chemistry with particular emphasis on at least 5 years’ experience in organo-phosphorus compounds chemistry;
• participation in at least two projects related to the position;
• proficiency in the research techniques listed under point 1, combined with the ability to interpret the results and documented by scientific papers;
• ability to operate research equipment with particular reference to flash and HPLC chromatographs, UV spectrometer, spectrofluorometer, integrating sphere and fluorescence lifetime measurement equipment, including interpretation of results;
• practice in care and working with young staff (supervising postgraduate students, lecturing doctoral students, co-supervising doctoral theses);
• proven experience in writing original publications, monographs and patents and documented presentation of results at scientific conferences;
• research experience through internships at foreign research centers;
• knowledge of English to enable independent preparation of scientific publications;
• desirable knowledge of the Polish language, spoken and written.

6. During the competition proceedings, candidates may be asked to present their past achievements in the form of a seminar at CMMS PAS.
7. The selected candidate will be employed in accordance with the provisions of the Labor Code for an indefinite period of time or under a term contract.
