ADJUNCT in Structural Chemistry Division

DIRECTOR OF THE CENTRE OF MOLECULAR AND MACROMOLECULAR STUDIES, POLISH ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, ANNOUNCES A COMPETITION FOR THE ADJUNCT POSITION IN STRUCTURAL CHEMISTRY DIVISION.

Keywords: Molecular Spectroscopy; Materials Modeling; Theoretical and Computational Chemistry; Functional Materials; Structural Chemistry

A research position focused on structural and spectroscopic analysis of hybrid functional materials and molecular crystals with biological and technological relevance, with a particular focus on modeling spectral responses using ab initio methods formulated for the condensed phase.

  1. Scientific research and other projects in which the candidate will participate:
  • structural studies of the condensed phase based on X-ray and neutron diffraction of both powder and single-crystal samples; characterization of the studied materials using thermal methods;
  • NMR spectroscopy studies and vibrational spectroscopy in solid-state (MAS NMR, IR, Raman, and terahertz spectroscopy);
  • modeling the structure and nuclear dynamics of functional materials and soft matter based on first-principles calculations;
  • thermodynamic stability analysis in polymorphic systems; analysis of intermolecular interactions in the studied materials based on spectroscopic studies and theoretical calculations;
  • preparation of scientific publications and grant proposals, and presentation of results at scientific conferences;
  • supervision of young researchers.
  1. Qualifications the ideal candidate should possess:
  • a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field;
  • proven expertise in publishing original research and presenting findings at international scientific conferences;
  • a strong track record of scientific contributions in the areas outlined in point 1, including at least twenty publications related to the topic;
  • a minimum of 10 years of experience in structural and spectroscopic research of condensed phases and materials modeling;
  • proficiency in research techniques mentioned in point 1, paired with the ability to independently interpret results, as demonstrated by published scientific work;
  • Hands-on experience with ab initio computational software for periodic boundary condition calculations; expertise in modeling the structure and spectral response of molecular and ion-molecular materials (NMR, lattice dynamics, first-principles molecular dynamics);
  • experience in securing the beam time and conducting experiments in large-scale research infrastructures (synchrotrons, neutron sources, free-electron lasers);
  • experience in mentoring and collaborating with early-career researchers (supervising graduates, lecturing, and co-supervising Ph.D. candidates);
  • research experience gained through fellowships or internships at renowned international scientific institutions;
  • proficiency in English, enabling preparation of scientific publications, presentation of results at conferences, and mentorship of international research staff;
  • proficiency in Polish, both spoken and written, is highly desirable.
