ASSISTANT POSITION in Polymer Division

DIRECTOR OF CENTRE OF MOLECULAR AND MACROMOLECULAR STUDIES, POLISH ACADEMY OF SCIENCES IN LODZ ANNOUNCES A COMPETITION FOR THE ASSISTANT POSITION in Polymer Division

(THE POSITION IS CONNECTED TO RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF IN-SITU GENERATION OF BIOPOLYMERIC NANOCOMPOSITES VIA SHEAR-INDUCED CRYSTALLIZATION AND THEIR PLASTIC DEFORMATION IN DIFFERENT MEDIA)

Scientific research and other works, which a candidate will participate in:

  • conducting independent research in the field of polymeric nanocomposites. In particular, the candidate must be experienced in in-situ fabricating and investigation of fully polymeric nanocomposites based on shear induced crystallization of biopolymers for broadly understood technical applications.
  • innovative development of biodegradable polymers and nanocomposites based on aliphatic-aromatic copolyesters with improved thermomechanical properties and controllable biodegradability to be used as feedstocks for additive manufacturing processes.
  • identification of micro mechanisms of deformation active in crystalline and amorphous phases in liquid environment.
  • scientific studies in the field of dry crazing mechanism of neat biopolymers in air, environmental crazing mechanism of neat biopolymers in different adsorption-active media, and development of bio-polymeric blends or composites with controlled environmental crazing processes.
  • Study of the structure and physical-chemical properties of bio polymeric composites, in order to scrutinize relationships between the structure and deformation mechanism.
  • tailoring the deformation mechanisms of in-situ generated biopolymeric nanocomposites to meet specific needs of target application.
  • study of the structure of the selected bio polymers and their structural modification in order to obtain samples of the desired structure and morphology.
  • detailed studies of mechanical properties and the plastic deformation process in polymers.
  • studies of structural and orientation changes induced by deformation using various experimental techniques, including X-ray (diffractometry, 2-D WAXS, 2-D SAXS), thermal analysis (DSC, DMA, TGA), spectroscopy (FTIR, EDS) and microscopy (OM, SEM, TEM, AFM), in-situ SAXS and WAXS analysis.
  • analysis of obtained results and preparation of publications in scientific journals and presentations at scientific conferences.

Terms and conditions to be met by a candidate:

  • Holding at least a Master Degree in Chemistry, chemical engineering, or polymer related discipline.
  • Significant experience in conducting investigations listed in the first paragraph.
  • Documented scientific background in areas mentioned above, including at least two papers published in journals from JCR (Philadelphia) list and presenting the research results in the form of speeches at scientific conferences.
  • Documented experience in writing international project proposals, applying to acquire funding from the National Science Centre (NCN), co-investigating in scientific grants from the National Science Centre (NCN) or other national science centers, participation in the implementation of research grants.
  • Cooperation with industry/institutions dealing with issues in the area of materials and new technologies.
  • Involvement in scientific patents regarding the fields listed in the first paragraph
  • Good skills in English and at least basic skills in Polish communication.
