Project title: NMR Crystallography as the state-of-art tool for insight into structural properties of active pharmaceutical ingredients and their formulations ndash;Innovative methodology to improve the quality of medical products.
Project is carried out within the HOMING programme of the Foundation for Polish Science
Project description: The aim of this project is to develop methodology of analysis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and their formulation to precisely describe structural behaviours existing in the solid-state forms. The extensive study will consider NMR Crystallography as the tool for solving problems of polymorphism, solvatomorphism and/or effect of co-crystallization mainly existing in medical products.
Since the neurodegeneration and concomitant diseases became one of the main problems for the elderly people, this work will focus on the medicines designed in the last decade for treatment of these diseases, such as Parkinson, Sclerosis Multiplex, Schizophrenia and Dementia with behavioural and psychological symptoms. Motivation to choose such a target is the obvious lack of deep structural studies for APIs selected in this project (Safinamide, Teriflunomide, PDE10A inhibitors and 5-HT6 receptor antagonists). Finally, our study will be focused on obtaining important structural information for particular objects and extend capability of NMR Crystallography methodology.
Key responsibilities include: 1. Crystallization of selected APIs in their commercial and non-commercial forms (i.e. polymorphs/hydrates/co-crystals/solvates)
2. Analysis of APIrsquo;s molecular crystals using SS NMR, XRD and QM calculation methods
3. Co-authorship of publication(s) in pre-reviewed journals
4. Active participation in thematic or Ramp;D conferences
Profile of candidates/requirements: 1. Required current MSc/BSc student status in studies in chemistry or a closely related field (in the whole period of involvement in the project);
2. Very good academic record;
3. Experience through coursework and/or a research project in the basics of crystallography, NMR, Quantum Chemical calcularions or related area;
4. Have good oral/written communication skills in English;
5. Should be willing to learn new techniques, and train the group members whenever required.
Required documents: 1. A cover letter (up to one A4 page);
2. Curriculum vitae (up to two A4 pages);
3. Grades in the course of studies (at least from the previous academic year);
4. Proof of participation in BSc/MSc studies in Chemistry or a similar science area;
5. One reference letter.
We offer: middot; An opportunity to become involved in an international research project: collaboration with the scientist from the UK, Japan and Poland;
middot; Training in state-of-the-art NMR Crystallography techniques;
middot; BSc/MSc studies and degree in the professional and dynamically developing field;
middot; Possibilities of foreign internships, trainings, and conference trips.
