Competition for the position of adjunct in Organic Chemistry Division.

Director of Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies Polish Academy of Sciences in Lodz announces competition for the position of adjunct in Organic Chemistry Division.

A position that includes work in the field of synthesis and study of photophysical properties of fused polycyclic (hetero)aromatic hydrocarbons.

  1. The main objectives of the research will include:
  • Preparation of (hetero)organic compounds including fused polycyclic (hetero)aromatic hydrocarbons with heteroatom substituents.
  • Measurements of photophysical and thermal properties of the obtained polycyclic (hetero)aromatic hydrocarbons.
  • Interpretation of the optical absorption and fluorescence spectra.
  • Synthesis of (hetero)organic substrates by classical and sonochemical methods.
  • Chemical modifications of the obtained (hetero)organic compounds.
  • Isolation of pure products by separation of crude reaction mixtures with physicochemical methods, including different types of chromatography.
  • Spectroscopic analysis (NMR, MS, UV, IR) of the compounds obtained with interpretation of the results.
  • Acting as an auxiliary supervisor in doctoral dissertations.
  • Preparation of grant projects, publications, and patents in Polish and English languages. Raising funds for research and purchase of research equipment.
  1. Conditions required from the candidate:
  • University education with at least PhD degree in chemistry or relative field.
  • Documented scientific achievements in the areas listed in point 1, including at least four publications in journals from the Philadelphia list devoted to the synthesis and study of the properties of fused polycyclic (hetero)aromatic hydrocarbons.
  • Documented experience in the field of (hetero)organic chemistry with particular emphasis on at least 5 years of experience in the area of organophosphorus compounds chemistry.
  • Documented ability to independently plan and conduct research.
  • Participation in at least two projects thematically related to the position.
  • Independent management, as a Leader, of a higher ranked research project of national or international importance.
  • Expertise in the research techniques listed in 1. combined with the ability to interpret the results and documented by scientific papers.
  • Ability to operate research apparatus, with particular emphasis on HPLC, flash chromatograph, sonicator, UV spectrometer, spectrofluorimeter, integrating sphere, and fluorescence lifetime measurement equipment.
  • Documented participation in national and international conferences on the topics listed in 1.
  • Proven experience in writing grant projects, original publications, monographs and patents, and documented presentation of results at scientific conferences.
  • Proven and fluent knowledge of measurement techniques (spectroscopy, spectrofluorimetry, TCSPC measurements, quantum yield measurements using integrating sphere) along with interpretation of results.
  • Knowledge of the English language, allowing the free use of professional literature and scientific writing.

  3. During the competition procedure, candidates may be asked to present their achievements in the form of a seminar at CMMS PAS.
  4. The selected candidate will be employed in accordance with the provisions of the Polish Labour Law for an indefinite or definite period.
