POSITION OF ASSISTANT IN STRUCTURAL CHEMISTRY DIVISION

DIRECTOR OF THE CENTRE OF MOLECULAR AND MACROMOLECULAR STUDIES, POLISH ACADEMY OF SCIENCES IN ŁÓDŹ, ANNOUNCES A COMPETITION FOR THE POSITION OF ASSISTANT IN STRUCTURAL CHEMISTRY DIVISION 

 

 1. The duties will include:

  • Conducting research on the crystallization of organic compounds, polymorphism, crystallization mechanisms (experiments with Crystal16 apparatus), elucidation of crystal structures of the obtained crystalline phases;
  • Conducting measurements with single-crystal and powder X-ray diffractometers, solving crystal structures from the obtained data;
  • Research on structure and dynamics of organic crystals using solution and solid-state NMR spectroscopy, as well as with supporting techniques (IR, DSC, TGA, UV);
  • Preparation of publications in scientific journals, patent applications, and presentations for scientific conferences;
  • Supervision of younger members of the team (students, MSc and PhD undergraduates);
  • preparation of grant proposals for conducting research and purchasing research equipment.

2. Conditions required from the candidate:

  • At least a master’s degree in chemical sciences, or in closely related areas;
  • proficiency in chemistry of organic crystals, good understanding of X-ray diffraction, NMR spectroscopy, and other above mentioned techniques;
  • substantial experience in solving crystal structures from single crystals and from powder X-ray data, supported by at least one first author scientific article;
  • experience in doing NMR spectroscopy experiments, including in the solid phase;
  • documented scientific achievements in organic crystal chemistry, supported by at least four publications in JCR-listed journals;
  • experience in scientific project implementation;
  • documented participation in national and international conferences, combined with presentation of own research results;
  • knowledge of English to the extent to be able to freely use professional literature, write grant projects, original publications, monographs and patents.

3. Required documents:

  • Application or motivation letter with a description of scientific experience (including one selected the most important scientific achievement and indication how a candidate fulfils the listed requirements) and the plan for the development of a scientific career (max. 3 A4 pages);
  • scientific resume (CV together with publication list and other scientific achievements;
  • Copy of Master’s/PhD diploma;
  • Two opinions prepared by researches from two different scientific groups.

  2. The competition will be concluded before 11.09.2026.
  3. During the competition procedure candidates may be asked to present their results and a description of the plan for the development of a scientific career at CMMS PAS.
  4. The selected candidate will be employed in accordance with the provisions of the Polish Labour Law for an indefinite or definite period.
  5. We reserve the right to cancel the competition without giving a reason.
